Kizugawa

Japanese: 木津川 - きづがわ

A tributary of the Yodo River that flows through southern Kyoto Prefecture. It is 99 km long. The Iga River and Nabari River join upstream to form the Kizu River. It flows north from Kizugawa City, creates floodplains in the southern Kyoto Basin, and joins the Yodo River at Oyamazaki. Sand flows frequently upstream from Kizugawa City, causing floods. Remains of the jori system can be seen on the floodplains, and the river has long been valued as a water transportation route connecting Omi, Yamashiro, and Yamato. In particular, ports and lumber houses were established here to transport timber.

京都府南部を流れる淀川の支流。長さ99km。上流の伊賀川と名張川が合流し木津川となる。木津川市で北流し，京都盆地南部にはんらん原をつくり大山崎で淀川に合する。木津川市から上流は砂の流入が盛んで，洪水の原因となる。はんらん原には条里制遺構がみられ，古くから近江・山城・大和を結ぶ水上交通路として重視された。とくに木材輸送のため津・木屋が置かれていた。
