Siberian gentian - Siberian gentian

A perennial plant of the Gentianaceae family (APG classification: Gentianaceae). The leaves are opposite, lanceolate, and powdery white on the underside. The stems are 30-80 cm tall. From August to September, dark blue-purple flowers bloom upwards at the top of the stem or in the upper leaf axils. It grows in wet grasslands from mountainous to subalpine zones, and is distributed from the northern Kinki region of Honshu to Hokkaido, the southern Kuril Islands, and Sakhalin.

リンドウ科（APG分類：リンドウ科）の多年草。葉は対生し、披針(ひしん)形で裏面は粉白色。茎は高さ30～80センチメートル。8～9月、茎頂や上部の葉腋(ようえき)に濃青紫色の花を上向きに開く。山地帯から亜高山帯の湿生草原に生え、本州の近畿地方北部から北海道、南千島、樺太(からふと)（サハリン）に分布。
