Tachikawa [town] - Tachikawa

Japanese: 立川[町] - たちかわ

An old town in Higashitagawa County in the northwest of Yamagata Prefecture. Most of the area is in the Tachiyazawa River basin, a tributary of the Mogami River, and the Kari River is located in the Shonai Plain at the northern end, through which the Rikuu-Sai Line passes. An irrigation canal built by Hokudate University during the Keicho era passes through the area, and rice fields spread across it. The southern part is at the foot of Mt. Gassan, and belongs to Bandai-Asahi National Park. In July 2005, it merged with Amarume Town in Higashitagawa County to become a town, Shonai Town. Area: 190.82 ^km2 . Population: 6,910 (2003).

山形県北西部，東田川(ひがしたがわ)郡の旧町。大半は最上川の支流立谷沢(たちやざわ)川の流域で，北端の庄内平野部に中心の狩川があり陸羽西(りくうさい)線が通じる。慶長年間北館大学によりつくられた灌漑(かんがい)水路が通じ，水田が広がる。南部は月山(がっさん)の山麓で，磐梯朝日国立公園に属する。2005年７月東田川郡余目町と合併し町制，庄内町となる。190.82km²。6910人（2003）。
