Kizu [town] - Kizu
An old town in Soraku County, at the southern tip of Kyoto Prefecture. The central settlement is at the mouth of the valley where the Kizu River flows into the Kyoto Basin, and once flourished as a timber unloading port. It is a key transportation location, as it is a junction of the Kansai Main Line, Nara Line, and Katamachi Line, and is also served by the Kintetsu Kyoto Line. Rice and vegetable cultivation are the main industries, but recently residential development has also been active. Heijo Soraku New Town has been developed, and it is also part of the Kansai Culture and Academic Research City. In March 2007, Kamo Town and Yamashiro Town in Soraku County merged to form Kizugawa City. 23.62 km2 . Population 39,128 (2005).

京都府南端,相楽(そうらく)郡の旧町。中心集落は木津川が京都盆地に出る谷口にあり,かつて木材の荷揚港として栄えた。関西本線,奈良線,片町線の接続点で近鉄京都線も通じる交通要地。米作,野菜栽培が主で最近は宅地化も盛ん。平城相楽ニュータウンを造成,関西文化学術研究都市の一部でもある。2007年3月,相楽郡加茂町,山城町が合併し,木津川市となる。23.62km2。3万9128人(2005)。
