Iizuka Kanshosai

...An inro maki-e artist from the late Edo period. Dates of birth and death unknown. Commonly known as Genroku, his pen name was Kanshosai. During the Meiwa period (1764-72), he was employed by Hachisuka Shigeyoshi of Awa on a stipend of six koku for three people, and lived in his clan residence in Edo's Nakahashi Himono-cho. Although he was a tough man who refused Lord Hachisuka's order to maki-e wooden sandals, he was also a man of letters who excelled in poetry. He showed a tasteful and elegant style of work, and his representative work is the Ujigawa Firefly Maki-e Paper Inkstone Box (Imperial Household Agency). …江戸後期の印籠蒔絵師。生没年不詳。通称は源六，号は観松斎。明和年間(1764‐72)に阿波の蜂須賀重喜に六石三人扶持で召し抱えられ，江戸中橋檜物町の藩邸に住む。蜂須賀侯より下駄に蒔絵を施す下命を断る硬骨漢である反面，詩歌をよくした文人。風情ある格調高い作風を示し，代表作には《宇治川蛍蒔絵料紙硯箱》(宮内庁)がある。彼の子孫は蜂須賀侯に仕え，観松斎の号を踏襲している。【郷家 忠臣】…
