A city in southeastern Michigan, USA. It is located on the Huron River, about 60 km west of Detroit. The city's history began in 1824. With the opening of the University of Michigan (founded in 1817 and relocated from Detroit) in 1837, it developed as a university town. It is one of the most important medical centers in the country, and university-related events such as the music festival in May and football in the fall are of great interest to residents. In connection with the university, there are also research facilities for various companies, including aeronautics, aerospace engineering, nuclear power, and chemistry. A variety of industries have developed, including bearings, springs, camera parts, packaging machines, instruments, and automotive instruments. Population: 113,934 (2010).
