...The Formosan termite is found south of Amami and attacks dry wood in houses and furniture. The American dry wood termite is native to America and was brought to Japan along with wood, with damage reported in Tokyo and Osaka.
[Control method]
In Japan, the termites that attack buildings are the Yamato Termite (illustration) and the Formosan Termite (illustration). The former in particular only attacks damp wood, so make sure there is adequate drainage and ventilation under the floor to prevent the building's structural materials from becoming damp, and remove tree roots and wood chips that are sources of infestation from around the building.
