Kinshu Lake

This lake is located in Nishiwaga Town, Waga County, in western Iwate Prefecture. It is an artificial lake created by Yuda Dam, which was created by damming the Waga River, a tributary of the Kitakami River, and was completed in 1964 (Showa 39). Yuda Dam is a dam used for flood control, power generation, and irrigation. With an effective storage capacity of 93.71 million cubic meters and a maximum output of 53,000 kilowatts, it is the largest dam in the Kitakami River system. The area around the lake belongs to Yuda Onsenkyo Prefectural Natural Park, and is particularly beautiful in the autumn foliage season. Rowing races are also held on the lake. The JR Kitakami Line and National Route 107 pass through the lake.

岩手県西部、和賀(わが)郡西和賀町にある湖。北上(きたかみ)川の支流和賀川をせき止めてつくられた湯田ダムの人造湖で、1964年（昭和39）完成。湯田ダムは洪水調節、発電、灌漑(かんがい)用ダム。有効貯水量9371万立方メートル、最大出力5万3000キロワットで北上水系のダム中最大規模である。湖周辺は湯田温泉郷県立自然公園に属し、とくに紅葉季はすばらしい。湖では漕艇(そうてい)競技も行われる。JR北上線、国道107号が通じる。
