Yinzhou

…During the Spring and Autumn period, it was the hinterland of the Yue state, centered around Kuaiji (Shaoxing), and during the Qin and Han periods, counties such as Juzhang, Yin, and Bo were established and belonged to Kuaiji County. Later, during the Sui and Tang periods, the counties were merged to form Bo County, and Yinzhou was established at the present location, halfway between these cities and at the confluence of the Yongjiang and Yuyao rivers. This was probably the result of agricultural development during the Northern and Southern Dynasties and the new emphasis on ties with the sea. …

…春秋時代には会稽(紹興)に中心のあった越の後背地であり，秦･漢には句章（こうしよう）県，鄞（きん）県，鄮（ぼう）県等が置かれ会稽郡に属した。その後隋･唐に至って，これらの都市の中間にあたり，甬江と余姚江の合流点である現在の位置に，これまでの県を合併して鄮県が設けられ鄞州が置かれた。南北朝期における農業開発と，新しく海洋との結びつきが重視されるようになった結果であろう。…
