Lake Kizaki

Lake Yamanaka is located in the northwest of Nagano Prefecture, at the eastern foot of the Ushiro Tateyama mountain range in the Northern Alps. It belongs to Omachi City. It has an elevation of 764 meters, an area of ​​1.65 square kilometers, and a maximum depth of 29.5 meters. The lake was formed by a depression in the Ushiro Tateyama mountain range caused by a fault line, and on its shores stand the ruins of a castle belonging to the Nishina clan, a powerful medieval clan. Along with the two lakes of Nakatsuna and Aoki to the north, it is known as one of the Nishina Three Lakes. Water sports such as windsurfing and canoeing are popular here, and the area around the lake has a comprehensive hot spring facility, inns, restaurants, campsites, swimming areas, and a circular road that runs around the lake shore, making it a popular destination with locals in midsummer. Shinano Kizaki Summer College is located on a hill on the east bank, and is on the JR Oito Line (15 minutes by bus from Shinano Omachi Station) and National Route 148. On August 15th, there is a lantern floating festival and fireworks display.

長野県北西部、北アルプス後立山(うしろたてやま)連峰の東麓(とうろく)にある山中湖。大町市に属する。標高764メートル、面積1.65平方キロメートル、最大深度29.5メートル。後立山連峰が断層で落ちくぼんだ所に湛水(たんすい)した湖で、湖畔には中世の豪族仁科(にしな)氏の城跡があり、北方にある中綱(なかつな)、青木の2湖とともに仁科三湖とよぶ。ウインドサーフィン、カヌーなどのウォータースポーツがさかんで、湖の周辺は、総合温泉施設、旅館、飲食店などのほかキャンプ場、遊泳場もあり、湖岸は周遊車道があって盛夏は地元の人でにぎわう。信濃木崎夏期大学(しなのきざきかきだいがく)が東岸の高台にあり、JR大糸線（信濃大町駅からバス15分）と国道148号が通る。8月15日灯籠(とうろう)流しと花火大会がある。
