Puget Sound - Puget Sound

A bay on the Pacific coast located in the northwest of Washington state in the United States. It extends about 150 km south from the Strait of Juan de Fuca, which forms the border with Canada, and is characterized by a coastline with many inlets and outlets and many islands. This topography is a type of fjord created by the action of glaciers that covered the region during the Pleistocene (Pleistocene) Epoch. Large ships can navigate the bay. Cities such as Everett, Seattle, and Tacoma have developed along the bay coast, and the state's population is concentrated here. The bay was named by George Vancouver, who explored the area in 1792.

アメリカ合衆国、ワシントン州の北西部に位置する太平洋側の湾。カナダとの国境をなすファン・デ・フカ海峡から南に約150キロメートル入り込んでおり、出入りの多い海岸線と多くの島が特徴である。この地形は、更新世（洪積世）にこの地方を覆った氷河の作用によるフィヨルドの一種である。湾には大型船が航行できる。湾岸にはエベレット、シアトル、タコマなどの都市が発達し、同州の人口はここに集中している。湾名は1792年にこの地を探検したジョージ・バンクーバーが命名。
