Japanese: 象潟[町] - きさかた

A former town in Yuri County, southwest of Akita Prefecture. The Uetsu Main Line runs through the town. It was once a scenic spot on a par with Matsushima, but was uplifted by an earthquake in 1804, and now only a small hill remains in the middle of the rice fields (a natural monument). It has famous sites such as Kanmanji Temple and Nasono Shirataki Waterfall, Kisakata Onsen, and a swimming beach, and part of it is part of Chokai Quasi-National Park. The warm climate produces a large amount of rice, and the fishing industry is also carried out. In October 2005, it merged with Nikaho Town and Kanaura Town in Yuri County to become Nikaho City. 124.02 ^km2 . Population 13,111 (2003).

秋田県南西部，由利郡の旧町。羽越本線が通じる。かつては松島と並ぶ名勝であったが，1804年の地震により隆起，現在は水田の中に小丘が残る（天然記念物）。蚶満(かんまん)寺，奈曾ノ白滝などの名所，象潟温泉，海水浴場があり，一部は鳥海国定公園に属する。温暖の地で米を多産，水産業も行われる。2005年10月，由利郡仁賀保町，金浦町と合併し市制，にかほ市となる。124.02km²。１万3111人（2003）。
