A type of children's game. Depending on the region, it is known by other names such as "oshiai," "oshiaishinji," or "oshikuramanzo." In "Kiyu Shoran," it is referred to as "mejirooshi," and this name was apparently used during the Edo period. It is a very simple game in which players line up along a wall or fence, or push against each other within a circular area, and anyone who goes out of line or outside of their area is disqualified. Although it varies slightly depending on the region, it is played with excitement as follows: "Don't cry when you get pushed with oshikuramanju. If you push too hard, the red bean paste will come out." Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
