Cutting the seal - Kirifu
〘Noun〙① A way of sealing a letter. A method of sealing a letter by cutting a part of the main paper without using a sealing paper. The main paper and the thank-you paper are overlapped and rolled from left to right, and the right end of the main paper is cut in a thin strip partway from the bottom, leaving the top part uncut. This is used as a paper string to tie the letter and then the seal is placed on top. Koshibumi (waist writing) . Kirifuji. *Haikai Mimisaraheshu (1831) "If it were something like a carp, it would be a cut-seal letter, but for a twisted-sealed oyster, it is well made."② A seal mark placed on the end of a letter. It is often written as "〆" (an abbreviated form of the cursive form of the character "seal").
