...In Japan, these two types of kinship organizations are found, and kinship is one of the two egocentric kinship organizations. Relatives are designated by a variety of folk terms depending on the region, such as oyako, oyagumaki, itoko, shinruimaki, shinrui, shinseki, yauchi, ikke, harou-ji, and kyode, and the content also varies depending on the region. Itoko, oyako, harou-ji, and kyode have very strong characteristics of egocentric kinship organizations with individuals as the unit. For example, itoko, which is often used in the coastal areas of Iwate Prefecture, emphasizes the aspect that two individuals are cousins.
