A German encyclopedia. The first edition was published by Joseph Meyer (1796-1856) in 1840-1855. The 6th edition (24 volumes) and the 7th edition (12 volumes) published in 1924-1930 are well known. The 8th edition, which reflected Nazism, was discontinued after 9 volumes.
