The Interconfessional Translation of the Bible

...The holy book of Judaism and Christianity. The name of the Bible in Western languages, such as the English Bible, originates from the Greek word biblia. This word comes from the diminutive biblion (biblia is plural) of biblos, which refers to the inner bark of the papyrus stem, the raw material for paper. It was a common noun meaning a pamphlet or part of a book, but it became a proper noun in the Christian church, and from around the 5th century, the whole Bible came to be called biblia. Unlike a book of divine revelation through a single person, such as the Islamic holy book the Koran, the Bible contains a variety of documents that were written by many people over the long history of the ancient Israelites and early Christianity.
