Masahiko Amakasu

A military officer in the Taisho period and a key figure in Manchukuo during the Showa period. Born in Miyagi Prefecture on January 26, 1891. His father was a police officer. After graduating from the Army Academy, he transferred to the military police due to an injury, and became a military police captain in 1921 (Taisho 10). While serving as the Shibuya and Kojimachi military police squad leaders, he was involved in the Great Kanto Earthquake of September 1923, murdering Osugi Sakae and others, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison at a military court martial the same year. He was released from prison in October 1926, and traveled to France the following year in 1927. After returning to Japan, he traveled to northeastern China (Manchuria) and cooperated with the Kwantung Army's Manchuria occupation plan. In 1932 (Showa 7), he served as the Chief of Police Affairs of the Manchuria National Affairs Department, later as General Affairs Director of the Kyowakai Central Headquarters, and as Chairman of the Manchuria Film Association. He committed suicide on August 20, 1945.
