Goniatite (English spelling)

Japanese: ゴニアタイト（英語表記）goniatite

Among the extinct cephalopods, the subclass Ammonites, this is an ancestral group that flourished in the Paleozoic Era and constitutes the order Goniatitida. They are so-called scleractinian hornworts, and their basic sutures are the goniatite type, the simplest among ammonites, but also include more complex sutures. There are two lineages: the primitive Anarcestina, which only existed in the Devonian, and the Goniatitina and Prolecanitina, which are descendants of this and differentiated and developed in the Carboniferous to Permian periods.

絶滅頭足類アンモナイト亜綱のうち，古生代に栄えた祖先型の一群で，分類上は目Goniatitidaを構成する。いわゆる稜角石類で，縫合線はアンモナイト中最も単純なゴニアタイト型を基本型としており，これの複雑化したものも含む。原始的でデボン紀だけにいたアナルセステス亜目Anarcestinaと，この子孫で石炭紀～二畳紀に分化発達するゴニアティテス亜目Goniatitinaとプロレカニテス亜目Prolecanitinaの2系統がある。
