In the early 20th century, the peasant literature movement promoted by the historian Yorga produced Sadobejanu, who perfected modern prose art and had a profound influence on the subsequent development of the novel. This tradition also produced writers such as Ion Agârbiceanu (1882-1962) in the interwar period, Marin Preda (1922-80), Ion Lǎncrǎnjan (1928-), Dumitru Radu Popescu (1935-), and Fǎnuş Neagu (1932-). With the rapid urbanization and the development of the labor movement, artists who depicted people from various classes, including intellectuals, in the urban customs and customs appeared, and the works of Hortensia Papadat-Bengescu (1876-1955), Cezar Petrescu (1892-1961), and Camil Petrescu (1894-1957) were highly acclaimed. This tradition was continued after World War II by Alexandru Ivasiuc (1933-77), Eugen Barbu (1924- ), and Ion Bǎieşu (1933- ).
