[Pedagogy as a science]
Although pedagogy developed in this way, the awareness of pedagogy as a social science came late, from the 19th to the 20th century. JD Bernal, who traced the history of human science in his magnum opus Science in History (1954), titled the final chapter "Social Science after World War I," cites "The Science of Education" as one of the passages in the book, in which he states that "pedagogy stands somewhat apart from the other social sciences, and its scientific position is more uncertain," and sees pedagogy as having emerged as a social science, following in the footsteps of economics, political science, sociology, and so on.
