A combination of animals or plants that comes together after their death [Wasmund: 1926, Dunbar & Rodgers: 1957]. It refers to a collection of dead organisms, and is the opposite of a biocoensis. There are various definitions of a necrotic community, including whether or not they constituted the same community when the organisms were alive [Kimura et al.: 1973]. The Greek words thanatos means death, and koinos means to share in common. Source: Asakura Publishing Dictionary of Petrology Information |
