A type of paper case for women, an accessory for Japanese clothing. In the past, thick colored paper was folded and combs and hairpins were placed between the folded pieces and carried in the pocket, but as it became more popular during the Edo period, ornate woven fabrics began to be used. It also became an indispensable accessory for women's formal attire rather than a bag, and from that time it came to be called a hakosako. Nowadays, it is used as an accessory for girls on the Shichigosan ceremony and for brides in Japanese attire at weddings.
