A town in Kitakanbara County in northern Niigata Prefecture. It borders Shibata City, occupies the Kaji River basin, and faces the Sea of Japan. The town cultivates rice, fruits, and vegetables, and is prolific in producing Nijisseiki pears and grapes. Niigata East Port was built in 1969, and a thermal power plant and an oil storage facility are located here. Area: 37.58 km2 .
