...It was a dispute between the True Lutherans and the Philippians, both of whom were disciples of Melanchthon, but from the late 1560s, there was a growing movement to summarize the results of these theological disputes and bring about religious and theological unity within the German Lutheran Church. In 1577, the Bergen Confession (later called the Fundamental Declaration) was compiled based on a draft mainly by Jakob Andreae (1528-90) and Martin Chemnitz (1522-86), and a summary of it was attached to the first part, and together they came to be called the Concordat Creed. As an attempt to explain the Augsburg Confession of 1530 in Luther's own way, it is accepted as one of the standards of faith in many Lutheran churches, including Germany. *Some of the terminology that mentions "Chemnitz, M." is listed below.
