Greece's most representative national museum. It is located in Patission Street in Athens. Construction began at the current location in 1874, and since then it has undergone repeated large-scale expansion and renovation to reach its current state. It systematically stores and exhibits Greek architecture, sculpture, and crafts from the Neolithic period to the Roman period, and is a central presence in the study of Greek art. Since 1975, a special exhibition of murals excavated on the island of Santorini has been held, and the painting section is also being enriched.
