Cap structure - Cap structure

A modified structure found at the 5' end of mRNA in eukaryotic cells. After transcription, one phosphate (p) is removed from the 5'-terminal nucleotide (pppN...) of the mRNA (ppN...), which reacts with guanosine triphosphate (GTP) to form GpppN..., and then a methyl group is added to the 7th position of guanine (G) to form a cap structure (CH ₃ -GpppN...).

真核細胞のmRNAの5′末端にみられる修飾構造．転写後，mRNAの5′末端ヌクレオチド(pppN…)からリン酸(p)が一個除去され(ppN…)，これにグアノシン三リン酸GTPが反応してGpppN…となり，さらにグアニン(G)の7位にメチル基がついてキャップ構造となる(CH₃-GpppN…)．
