...Kihassoku is the name used mainly in various parts of Wakayama Prefecture, and is said to have been named because this fish is difficult to cook and requires a wooden spoon to cook. It is also called Kihaccho in Yuasa, Shuriki in Miwazaki, Nabekosage in Wakaura, Sonewase in Nagasaki, and Washidai in Kagoshima. It is widely distributed from southern Japan to the western Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, and lives in rocky areas 5 to 50 meters deep off the coast.
