Kinonii - Kinonii

Japanese:
Kinonii - Kinonii
Year of death: 11/10/11 (1166/2/12)
Year of birth: Unknown. An aristocrat from the late Heian period. Wet nurse to Emperor Goshirakawa. Daughter of Fujiwara Kanenaga, Governor of Kii. Also known as Kii Nii and Ki no Mi. Wife of Fujiwara Michinori (Shinzei), who was known for his erudition and great talents and was killed in the Heiji Rebellion (1159). She served Taikenmon'in, and in 1127 she was chosen as one of the wet nurses for Prince Masahito (later Emperor Goshirakawa). The relationship between wet nurses and adopted princes has always been extremely close, and Asako was held in high esteem, like her real mother. In addition, as her husband Shinzei's power grew, Asako's status also rose, and in 1157 she served as the Yasoshima saigu at the enthronement ceremony of Emperor Goshirakawa, and in 1159 she was awarded the Nii rank. Even after her death, she was still revered by Emperor Goshirakawa, so much so that the emperor himself went to hold a memorial service for her on the anniversary of her death. Furthermore, when Shojoko-in Temple, which was Asako's wish, burned down, it was immediately rebuilt at the Emperor's discretion. She also had three sons with Shinzei, Narinori, Shuhan, and Shokane, all of whom were highly valued by the emperor. According to the Gukansho and Imakagami, Asako was a very small and wise woman.
