Hahajima Islands - It all started

Japanese: 母島列島 - ははじまれっとう

A group of islands in the southern part of the Ogasawara Islands, Tokyo. Total area 26.17 ^km2 . Part of Ogasawara Village, Ogasawara Subprefecture. The highest point is Chibusayama (463m). The main islands are Hahajima, Mukaijima, Tairajima, Anejima, Imojima, and Meijima, with Hahajima being the largest. Before World War II, there were two villages, Kitamura and Okimura, and agriculture and fishing were the main industries, but after the war it came under the administration of the United States. It was returned to Japan in 1968. Part of Ogasawara National Park. It was registered as a natural World Heritage Site in 2011.

東京都，小笠原諸島の南部にある島嶼群。総面積 26.17km²。小笠原支庁小笠原村に属する。最高点は乳房山（463m）。おもな島は母島，向島，平島，姉島，妹島，姪島で，母島が最大。第2次世界大戦前は北村，沖村の 2村があり，農漁業を主産業としていたが，戦後アメリカ合衆国の管理下に置かれた。1968年日本に返還された。小笠原国立公園に属する。2011年世界遺産の自然遺産に登録。
