A group of islands in the southern part of the Ogasawara Islands, Tokyo. Total area 26.17 km2 . Part of Ogasawara Village, Ogasawara Subprefecture. The highest point is Chibusayama (463m). The main islands are Hahajima, Mukaijima, Tairajima, Anejima, Imojima, and Meijima, with Hahajima being the largest. Before World War II, there were two villages, Kitamura and Okimura, and agriculture and fishing were the main industries, but after the war it came under the administration of the United States. It was returned to Japan in 1968. Part of Ogasawara National Park. It was registered as a natural World Heritage Site in 2011.
