Fox Fist - Kitsuneken

Japanese:
Fox Fist - Kitsuneken
A game similar to Janken, in which players compete using their fingers and arms. Two players sit facing each other and assume the poses of a fox, a hunter, or a village headman. The fox opens both hands and raises them to his ears in the shape of fox ears, the hunter makes fists with both hands as if holding a gun, and the village headman opens both hands and places them on his lap. The rules are that the fox tricks the village headman and defeats him, the hunter defeats the fox, and the village headman, being in a stronger position, defeats the hunter. It has many names, such as Touhachiken, Village Headman Ken, Zaigyoken, and Myoshuken, and is said to have started as entertainment at drinking parties in the Edo period, but in all cases the winner is decided by a rock-bottom tie between the fox, the hunter, and the village headman. (→Fist)
