Greek goddess of arts and learning. Plural Musai, or Muses in English. According to Hereodos, they were daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory. During the Roman Empire, the fields they were responsible for were more or less established as follows: Calliope (epic poetry), Cleo (history), Euterpe (lyric poetry), Thalia (comedy), Melpomene (tragedy), Terpsichore (song, dance, chorus), Urania (astronomy), Erato (solo singing), and Polyhymnia (hymn). The center of their worship was Mount Helicon, especially the Hippocrene spring on the mountain.

ギリシア神話の芸術と学問の女神。複数形ムーサイMousai，英語ではミューズMuse。ヘレオドスによればゼウスと記憶の女神ムネモシュネの娘たち。ローマ帝政期にそのつかさどる分野がほぼ次のように確定した。カリオペ（叙事詩），クレイオ（歴史），エウテルペ（抒情詩），タレイア（喜劇），メルポメネ（悲劇），テルプシコレ（歌舞合唱），ウラニア（天文），エラト（独唱歌），ポリュヒュムニア（賛歌）。崇拝の中心地はヘリコン山，とりわけ同山中のヒッポクレネの泉。
