...Based on the Neogene layer, the caldera was formed after the eruption of a large amount of dacite pumice flow, and is dotted with stratovolcanoes and lava domes composed mainly of pyroxene andesite, dacite, and rhyolite. The mountain range is divided into the Kita-Hakkoda Volcanic Group and the Minami-Hakkoda Volcanic Group by the Arakawa River, which runs west, and the Tsuta River, which runs east. The Kita-Hakkoda Volcanic Group consists of the Maedake, Tamoyatsu-dake (1324m), Akakura-dake (1548m), Ido-dake (1550m), and O-dake (1585m), which are lined up from north to south....
