Kitahama Incident

...These include the first modern panic in 1890, 1900, 1914 (run and closure of Kitahama Bank, known as the Kitahama Incident), and the reactionary panic in 1920, in which the Seventy-Four Banks, a leading bank at the time, experienced a severe run, which spread to other banks. In the financial panic of 1927, which began with the closure of Tokyo Watanabe Bank, runs on banks in the Kyoto and Yokohama areas, which were thought to hold a large number of earthquake bills, intensified, but in the final stage, they became indiscriminate runs nationwide, and developed into runs based on distrust of banks in general.
