...An evergreen epiphytic orchid. Its Japanese name comes from its rod-shaped leaves. The stem is wrapped in a leaf sheath. The leaves grow alternately in two rows, are slender and cylindrical, about 10 cm long and 3-4 mm in diameter. In July and August, 1-4 flowers appear in the leaf axils. The flowers are about 1 cm in diameter, and the sepals and petals are pale green. The lip is blackish brown, with small lateral lobes at the base, and the central lobe is shallowly bisected at the tip. There is no spur. It is found in western Japan from central Honshu westward, the Ryukyus, Taiwan, and China, and grows on trees in warm temperate forests. ...
