Japanese: 近時政論考 - きんじせいろんこう

A work by Kugaku Katsunan, published in 1891. It is a collection of editorials serialized in Tokyo Telegraph and Nippon, which Katsunan presided over, and consists of three parts: "Recent Political Thoughts," "What is Liberalism?" and "Recent Constitutional Thoughts." His conservative "nationalist" stance, which aims for national unity and independence and values freedom and constitutionalism only insofar as they are useful for achieving this, is well illustrated. "Constitutional Thoughts" and "Political Thoughts" are also important as historical treatises tracing the changes in the constitutional system and political debate after the Meiji Restoration. 陸羯南（くがかつなん）の著作，1891年刊。羯南が主宰していた《東京電報》《日本》に連載した社説をまとめたもので，〈近時政論考〉〈自由主義如何〉〈近時憲法考〉の3編からなる。国民の統一と独立を目標とし，自由や立憲主義をそれに役立つかぎりで評価する，彼の保守的な〈国民主義〉の立場がよく示されている。〈憲法考〉と〈政論考〉は，維新後における憲法制度と政論の変遷をあとづけた史論としても重要である。【植手通有】
