Steel, which has a body-centered cubic (BCC) structure, easily absorbs hydrogen during processes such as casting, plastic working, pickling, plating, and corrosion. Hydrogen embrittlement (HE) refers to the phenomenon in which hydrogen absorption causes a change in the mechanical properties of steel, making it brittle under tensile stress. In general, hydrogen embrittlement in metals is classified into diffusion-type hydrogen embrittlement, which is caused by dissolved hydrogen atoms moving inside the crystal due to deformation caused by stress, and precipitation-type hydrogen embrittlement, which is caused by the precipitation of hydrides. In the case of steel, it is the former diffusion-type, and it is most susceptible around room temperature. …
