...In a broader sense, it is a common or general term for all Japanese music that incorporates instrumental melodies that depict the cloth sarashi of the original jiuta shamisen music, or dance music that accompanies the choreography of cloth sarashi. (1) Jiuta and Koto music Before the Jokyo era (1684-88), Kitazawa Koto linked together short short songs that sang about cloth sarashi on the Uji River and included an interlude to create a long song, which he called "Kosarashi."
