Alpha 2 of Canes Venatici. Its unusual Latin name, meaning "Heart of Charles," was given to it by E. Harry, an astronomer famous for Comet Harry, in honor of King Charles II of England. It is a binary star suitable for observation with a small telescope of about 5 cm in diameter, with Alpha 1 being visible at a distance of about 19 inches and a magnitude of 5.6. This star is also known as a magnetic variable, or a peculiar A-type star, and its magnetic field strength and absorption lines in its spectrum, which indicate the presence of metallic elements, change regularly, just like the star's period of variation.
