A moth belonging to the family Tortricidae in the order Lepidoptera of the class Insecta. It is a small species with a wingspan of about 15 mm, and is distributed throughout Japan, as well as Taiwan and India. It occurs 3 to 5 times a year. The adults emerge in autumn in broad bean fields and lay eggs in the broad beans. The hatched larvae overwinter eating the beans, but in many cases they overwinter as pupae burrowing into dead leaves. The pupae emerge in spring and lay eggs. The larvae that hatch in spring feed on broad bean stems, flowers, and pods, as well as wisteria and kidney beans. Then, when soybeans, cowpeas, and adzuki beans are cultivated, the next generation feeds on these. They eat in various ways, such as by picking out the leaf cores of the food waste, collecting dirty pieces of leaves, and burrowing into the stems. We also eat beans when they ripen in the fall.

昆虫綱鱗翅(りんし)目ハマキガ科に属するガ。はねの開張15ミリメートルぐらいの小形種で、日本全土および台湾、インドなどに分布する。1年に3～5回発生する。秋にソラマメ畑で羽化(うか)した成虫はソラマメに産卵する。孵化(ふか)した幼虫は、それを食べながら越冬するが、多くの場合、枯れ葉の中に潜って蛹(さなぎ)で越冬する。蛹は春に羽化して産卵する。春に孵化した幼虫は、ソラマメの茎、花、莢(さや)などのほか、フジ、インゲンマメなども食害する。ついでダイズ、ササゲ、アズキなどが栽培されるようになると、次の世代がこれらを食害する。食べ方はいろいろで、食べかすの葉芯(ようしん)をつづったり、葉片を汚く集めたり、茎に潜ったりする。秋に豆のできるころには豆も食べる。
