Woven fabrics are made by interlacing two series of threads, warp and weft, at right angles, while knitted fabrics are made by stitching together loops. There are two types of knitted fabrics: fabric knitting, which is cut and sewn like woven fabrics, and fashioned knitting, which is made by knitting pieces of fabric directly based on a pattern and then sewing them together to make a finished product. The former type of product is called cut-and-sewn knitwear, and the latter is called fully fashioned knitwear. It is used only for flat knitting, but there are no cut seams like cloth products, and the stitches do not feel thick even when stitched together. …

…手編ニットhand knit fabric，横編ニットflat knit fabric，丸編ニットcirculer knit fabric，経編ニットwarp knit fabricがある。織物は経糸と緯糸の2系列の糸を直角に交錯させて作ったものであるが，編物はループloop(編環)の連綴によってできる布地であり，それを織物と同様に裁断し，縫製して製品を作る生地編と，直接パターンを基礎にしそれにあわせて編目を増減して編み上げ，その編地片をかがり合わせて製品とする成型編がある。前者の製品はカット･アンド･ソーン･ニットウェア，後者はフルファッションド･ニットウェアともいい，横編のみに用いられるが布製品のような裁ち目がなく，綴じ合わせても綴じ目に厚みが感じられない。…
