A declaration adopted at the First Confessional Synod of the German Evangelical Church in Barmen, Ruhr, May 29-30, 1934. Officially known as the "Theological Declaration on the Present State of the German Evangelical Church." It expressed resistance to German Christians who followed the totalitarianization of the church under the Nazi regime from 1933 onwards, and was a confession based on the creeds of the Reformation. Drafted by K. Barth, it consists of six articles. It denies the knowledge of God based on natural theology, asserts the kingship of Christ, the uniqueness of the church order, and the independence of the church from political control, describes the mission of the church and the state, and opposes autocracy. Later, a national organization of Confessional Churches was formed to resist Hitler based on this declaration.

1934年5月 29～30日，ルールのバルメンにおけるドイツ福音主義教会の第1回信仰告白教会会議で採用された宣言。正式には「ドイツ福音主義教会の現状に対する神学的宣言」。 33年以後のナチ政権下の教会の全体主義化に追従したドイツ・キリスト者に対し抵抗を表明，宗教改革の諸信条に基づいて告白したもの。 K.バルトの草案により，6ヵ条から成る。自然神学による神認識を否定し，キリストの王権，教会の秩序の独自性，政治的支配からの教会の独立を主張，教会と国家の使命について述べ，専制政治に反対した内容である。その後，この宣言に基づいて，ヒトラーに抵抗する告白教会の全国組織がつくられた。
