...The townscape first began on the north and south sides of Gion-cho facing Shijo-dori, and full-scale development began in the Kanbun period. In other words, around 1670 (Kanbun 10), the townscape moved south from Sanjo along Yamato-oji, forming the Gion Soto-roku-cho area between the area and Donguri-no-zushi, south of Shijo-dori. In 1713 (Shotoku 3), the town was developed along the Shirakawa River, and the Gion Uchi-roku-cho area appeared. All the playhouses that had been on Shijo-gawara were moved to Nakano-cho, one of the Soto-roku-cho areas, and by the Genroku period, five playhouses were lined up on either side of Shijo-dori. ...
