Xindan type - Shintankei

Japanese:
Xindan type - Shintankei

The uppermost Precambrian is widely distributed in China and the Korean peninsula, and is mainly composed of unmetamorphosed quartzite, shale, and limestone. It overlies the metamorphosed upper Precambrian with an oblique unconformity and is unconformably covered by the Cambrian. The name Sinian was first used by the German Richthofen in 1877 to refer to the uppermost Precambrian, Cambrian, and Ordovician systems, and then by the American Bailey Willis (1857-1949) in 1907 to refer only to the Cambrian and Ordovician systems, and then by the American Grabow in 1922 to refer only to the uppermost Precambrian. The Sinian System is known to contain glacial gravel transported and deposited by glaciers in southern China. The Sinian limestone contains fossils of Collenia (blue-green algae), but unlike the upper Cambrian, which produces many fossils such as trilobites, it is extremely poor in fossils. The layer equivalent to the Sinian limestone in the Korean peninsula is called the Shogenkei.
