Japanese: 人造麝香 - じんぞうじゃこう
Artificial musk
A synthetic fragrance that is used as a substitute for musk. It has a completely different structure from the components of musk, but has a similar scent. Representative examples are aromatic nitro compounds such as musk xylene, musk ketone, and musk ambrette. Recently, macrocyclic ketones with structures similar to those of musk have also been synthesized industrially. (Figure)
