Artificial musk

A synthetic fragrance that is used as a substitute for musk. It has a completely different structure from the components of musk, but has a similar scent. Representative examples are aromatic nitro compounds such as musk xylene, musk ketone, and musk ambrette. 麝香の代用とされる合成香料。麝香の香成分とは全く構造が異なるが，類似したかおりをもつ。芳香族ニトロ化合物であるムスク・キシレン，ムスク・ケトン，ムスク・アンブレットが代表的。最近では麝香の香成分に近い構造をもった大環状ケトンも工業的に合成されている。（図）
