Chios - Chios

...It is rich in Mediterranean agricultural products such as grapes and figs, but is especially famous for its production of Boswellia carterii , a member of the Burseraceae family, which is now added to ouzo, a type of Greek shochu. Chios, the capital since ancient times, is located in the center of the eastern coast facing Asia Minor, and was a major city among the 12 Ionian cities in ancient times, and is said to be the birthplace of the poet Homer. An inscription from the first half of the 6th century BC speaks of the existence of a popular council (bouleh) as an appeals body, suggesting the democratization of Chios, but it later came under Persian sovereignty.
