...SI Mamontov, a patron of the Itinerant Exhibitionists, collected Russian peasant art for his private art museum and entrusted painters with the stage sets for his private opera house, while Shchukin and Morozov collected post-Impressionist Western art and made it available to the public. Under these circumstances, the "World of Art" (founded in 1898) of Diaghilev, Benois and others, influenced by the symbolism of Merezhkovsky and Blok, studied medieval Russian icons and approached Western Art Nouveau, while PV Kuznetsov, the Milyuty brothers, MS Salyan and others' "Blue Rose" (1907) came into contact with Fauvism and went beyond symbolism, moving towards primitivism. Larionov and his lover Goncharova, who belonged to the Blue Rose, formed the Jack of Diamonds in 1910 with II Mashkov, RR Farikh, and PP Konchalovsky, and invited French Cubists, the Munich Blaue Reiter, and the Georgian naive painter Pirosmanashvili (Pirosmani) to their exhibitions.
