1802‐73 The last and most outstanding court poet (Pejanga) of the Surakarta royal family, a descendant of the Mataram Islamic dynasty in Indonesia. Born in the royal capital of Surakarta, to the court poets Yosodipuro I and II, Yosodipuro studied Javanese mysticism (Kebatinan) and Arabic literature at the Islamic academy (Pesantren) in Ponorogo, Tegalsari and Demak, and then devoted himself to the study of Kawi literature (Old Javanese literature) in Kediri.
