…In 1957, an oil field was discovered in the vicinity of Villahermosa, the capital of Tabasco state in southern Mexico, with a layer of Miocene sandstone from the Tertiary period. Later, with the advancement of drilling technology, deep drilling began in 1971, and the following year, two exploratory wells successfully discovered a layer of Cretaceous (partly Jurassic) limestone oil. The collective name for the 25 oil fields producing from this layer is the Reforma oil field, a super-giant group of oil fields with an oil production area of ​​70 km x 100 km.
