Kasuga clan

Japanese: 春日氏 - かすがうじ
Kasuga clan
An ancient powerful clan. Also called the O-Kasuga clan. A relative of the Wani clan. According to the clan genealogy in the Kojiki, the founder was Emperor Kōshō's son, Amenooshitarashihiko. They had compound surnames, Kasuga Waniomi, Kasuga Awataomi, and Kasuga Onoomi, and were likely the main branch of the Wani clan. Their surname (kabane) changed from omi to ason due to the surname Yakusa. They were found in the northeastern part of the Nara Basin, mainly in Kasuga-go, Soekami-gun, Yamato Province, and in the Shinsen Shojiroku, it is said that the family was wealthy and made a pile of sake lees to make kaki, so Emperor Nintoku named them Kasugaki no omi.
